I’m Miranda
I live in Michigan and am the creator of Filling Our Days. I love being outside and spending time with my children. I spend most of the day as a stay-at-home mom and have found activities and crafts to be such a helpful tool in my parenting journey. I’m here to share ideas you can try in your own family so you can reclaim your peace and enjoy the time you have with your children! Together let’s build memories and a life you love.

We are getting in the spooky spirit and to kick us off we have this Halloween Rice Sensory Bin.
Using rice we made last year and a few plastic toys, the kids were occupied for at least an hour! If nothing else, make the colored rice linked in this post!
Letter and Color Recognition with Dot Stickers
Today we used dot stickers to practice letter formation and recognition. This is a great activity for preschoolers or early elementary aged kids with modifications for 1-2 year olds.
Yes, I found an activity that successfully occupied all three of my children for over 30 minutes by using a few sheets of dot stickers! Check out the full post to get the scoop.
Alphabet Hunt
This is a fun way to practice letter recognition, fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and bring in some decision-making practice.
Perfect for preschoolers through elementary aged kids, this is a great activity to keep in your back pocket for a slow afternoon.

Bug and Nature Exploration Bin
Let your child collect some nature items and explore some (pretend) bugs! This was a great way to chat about the different creatures we might see as the weather warms up and ease some of the bug fears our 3 year old has.
Easy to set up and fun to explore!
Paper Towel Roll Haircuts- Scissor Skills for Toddlers and Preschoolers
This activity is low prep and big on fun! Save a paper towel or toilet paper roll this week and you will be all set.
The kids will love giving haircuts and drawing faces on the people they create. They get some fine motor and scissor practice in while having a blast! This might require supervision for younger kids, but older children can be fairly independent here.
