The Best Books for Valentine’s Day for Kids and Toddlers
If you couldn’t tell from our most recent post detailing how we use The 14 Days of Love, I love Valentine’s Day! I have put together a list of our favorite books celebrating love of all kinds. Check out the list below and let me know which ones you love!
Here are some of our favorite picture books in the month of February:
Take Heart, My Child- I love the words and meaning in the pages of this book. I tear up most the majority of times I read it to the kids at bedtime. It’s sweet and empowering, full of love and messages of unwavering support.
Hair Love- This book is so well read in our house and I bet your kids will love it just as much as mine do. It somehow mixes self love with the love between and dad and daughter seamlessly. I also firmly believe representation matters in books (social media, TV, etc.) and think this is a wonderful way to showcase a black family and kinky or curly hair.
In My Heart: A Book of Feelings- The illustrations in this book are darling and my kids love the descriptions of the emotions and it has segued into some great conversations about anger and working through fear together.
Love Is- Please get this book if you do not already own it! This very well be my favorite children’s book and I absolutely cannot make it through without getting a little misty eyed. The story is about a girl loving, and letting go, of a duckling, but it so accurately describes parenthood. I’m getting teary just thinking about this book and how much I love my children, so let’s move on.
Hug Machine- A silly book all about getting and giving great hugs! The kids always laugh and I get a nice squeeze from everyone at the end.
Bunny Roo, I Love You- The sweet pictures and text share how mothers of all sorts care for their babies. My kids get a kick out of pretending to be all different types of animals and this book fits right in.
I Need a Hug- Guaranteed to get a laugh out of all of us, this book shares messages of not judging a book by its cover and friendship. Both of my older kids requested this book daily at 3-4 years old.
So Many Cuddles- Follow along in a day of a girl and her pets as they share so many different feelings and cuddles.
I’d Know You Anywhere, My Love- This book does a beautiful job of showing children they will always be loved by their parents while also getting some imagination going. My kids love to make the different animal noises as we turn each page.
Love You Forever- I know this book has some critics, but my kids all love it and ask for it at bedtime a lot. The rhythm of the words and rocking back and forth, back and forth calms everyone down. Plus, I love the rare chance I get to see my older children sleeping, so I kind of get where this mom is coming from. I won’t be climbing in any windows when my kids move out, but I get it.
If you have little ones at home and are looking for board books, I’ve got you covered! Head on over to this post to check out our top board book picks.
All of the books from both lists would make great gifts for your child, another child in your life, and as a baby shower gift. We could all use a little more love in our lives, so definitely give these books a read.
